SPICE - THE ART OF THAI CUISINE
Thai cuisine has earned a firm reputation all around the world for
its special (often subtle) combinations of flavours, ingredients
and textures, and the best of Thai cooking is now available for
your enjoyment at Spice, Vietnam's latest Thai - Asian restaurant
close to the centre of downtown Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
Since the restaurant's opening in November 2002, Spice has
quickly gained a solid reputation for truly authentic Thai cuisine
served in style at the restaurant's pleasant villa location close
to the heart of the city.
Guests can choose between open-aspect terrace or patio dining
under the stars or enjoy their meals in our beautifully decorated
dining room in the villa.
Spice serves some of the tastiest, most authentic Thai cuisine
available in Vietnam. Our head chef, Mr Supote (or Pote as he is
better known), has refined his skills in many great restaurants in
Thailand and Vietnam. He excels in creating beautiful dishes from a
variety of cuisines, but the food from his native Thailand remains
his favourite.
In addition to fine food and authentic dishes from all over
Thailand, Spice's bar and cellar offers diners a wide choice of
wines, beers, fresh fruit juices, shakes and a selection of teas
and coffees to accompany their meal.
Finally, prices at Spice are surprisingly reasonable: A typical
meal for four with perhaps four appetizers and five main dishes
goes for around VND 560,000 (US$33), plus drinks - excellent value
given the location and stylish ambiance of the venue.
The dishes chef Pote has created at Spice include a wide range
of well known favourites plus several delicate specialities not
often found on run-of-mill Thai menus. A selection of the dishes
available at Spice for your dining pleasure include:
Yam Tha Lay (seafood salad with herbs), various Satays, Thod Man
Pla (fried fish patties), Som Tam (a traditional hot and spicy
papaya salad from the Northeast of Thailand), Tom Yam Kung (spicy
seafood soup), Massaman Gai (mild chicken curry from the South of
the country), traditional, spicy red & green curries with
chicken, shrimp, pork or beef, Phad Thai (Thai-style fried noodles
with eggs), Phad Kraprao (spicy, pan fried meat or seafood with
holy basil) and Gai Phad Med Ma Muang (sautéed chicken with
cashew nuts).
House specialities include Crab Twins (a pair of delicately
fried crabs served with a light curry sauce), Spice's Steam Boat
(with chicken, beef or seafood) and Volcano Chicken (whole roasted
chicken served in flames).
Despite the name of the restaurant, and the reputation of Thai
cuisine for heat and spice, many Thai dishes are in fact relatively
mild. Diners will usually order several dishes to be shared
communally with the spicier foods complimented and balanced by
milder options. Rice is of course eaten at pretty much every Thai
meal and at Spice we serve a variety of rice dishes including
fried, plain boiled and traditional sticky rice from Northeast
Thailand.
While Spice currently specialises in authentic Thai cuisine, the
menu and style of the restaurant will change with the seasons,
introducing a series of delicate Asian cuisines to a discerning
clientele hungry for new dining experiences. We'll keep you posted
via this web site, or Click Hereto subscribe to our mailing list
for news of new menus and other events at Spice - Vietnam's most
exciting Thai/Asian dining experience.
Spice is conveniently located close to the centre of town, ideal
for a business lunch or romantic dinner. The open, spacious design
of the venue makes it a great choice for larger parties including
celebrations or social events.
Spice is also well placed for tourists being close to many of
Saigon's major hotels and tourist sights, and public transport
including taxis and motorcycles is plentiful right outside the
door.
Business or pleasure, large or small, we look forward to
welcoming you soon at Spice.
