Le Bordeaux French Restaurant, Saigon
A Classic Venue for Contemporary French Cuisine


A few years ago, three friends travelled to Vietnam. Following four weeks of trekking around the country, the found themselves in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), hungry and seeking good French food.

They were disappointed. The city was seemingly bereft of decent French fare, and so the three friends decided there and then to do something about it.

Eight years later, this first-class French restaurant is testament to their dedication, commitment and, ultimately, professionalism.

All three - Phuc, Jean-Paul and Bruno - have a history of involvement in and a love of French cuisine: Phuc has served as chef in many renowned French restaurants in the Mother country including a two-star Michelin venue; Jean-Paul's family has been running top-end restaurants and brasseries in the Bordeaux region for longer than he might care to remember, and Bruno has a similar background in the gastronomic melee of the region. Their combined experience has resulted in Le Bordeaux - the finest original French restaurant in Saigon.

While Jean-Paul and Bruno look after the dining room, Phuc is the powerhouse in the kitchen: all ensure that the dining experience at Le Bordeaux is the best possible available in the region, and definitely one of the greatest culinary delights in Vietnam.

The venue itself is split between two levels - a convivial bar and lounge downstairs and a grand dining room on the first floor. The space is dominated by a decorative, wrought-iron chandelier and the ambiance is at once welcoming and intimate.

The ground floor, and the venue generally, is decorated in true Gallic style with posters, prints and original works by resident artist Helene Kling, who has captured some of the most memorable moments of Vietnamese life in her unique tableaux, all of which are available for purchase.

Before dining, an aperitif is recommended and the staff at the bar will be pleased to serve your drink of choice. Suitably watered, it's time to climb the central staircase to your table and all the delights it holds in store.

Given that two of the founding partners in Le Bordeaux are indeed Bordeaux natives, and with all management sharing a love for and wide experience in that region's culinary secrets, it should come as no surprise that the menu at Le Bordeaux reflects their passions.

The dining room itself is a beautifully designed space with tables overlooking the ground floor or the central motif, always adorned with an extravagant arrangement of fresh flowers.

Tables range from intimate seating for a couple or more to larger, eight-seater placements, all decorated with beautiful floral displays and natural wax candles.

And, as long as there is food to eat on this planet, the partners at Le Bordeaux will make it a feast: Unsurprisingly the menu specialises in the unique and delicious cuisine of the Bordeaux region.

To start, diners are offered an "Amuse Bouche" with compliments of the management - a great way to whet the appetite for the feast to follow.

Appetizers range from pan-fried Foie Gras with mushrooms, or perhaps a fresh Oyster Salad might be in order. Soups are also on offer including a house special, a tasty creamy fish bouillon - Court Bouillon Creme au Gout de la Mer.

To follow, the choice is yours: Guests might be tempted by the Grilled Red Mullet with anchovies, or perhaps the Scallops "Saint Jaques" Casserole, while meat-lovers will be delighted withthe Cote de Veau Farcie (young, milk-fed veal rib stuffed with mushrooms), or Tournedos de Boeuf served with fresh Foie Gras and a wine sauce. Or duck, again with Foie Gras and a grape sauce.

Needless to say, all dishes are freshly cooked to order using only the freshest ingredients available purchased either from local markets or specially imported.

Desserts are equally tempting, running from the house special - Soufflé Chaud a la Menthe & Chocolat, or a similar dish, Soufflé Glace au Chocolat. Other sweet delights include a delicious Strawberry Shortcake (Bordeaux-style!) or perhaps you might prefer to relax with a fine digestif over a plate of imported speciality cheeses.

With all this on offer, in such beautiful surroundings, Le Bordeaux truly offers one of the most satisfying dining experiences available in Saigon, Vietnam or indeed Asia.

Service is attentive, polite and professional while remaining unobtrusive and discrete, ensuring a memorable meal for all diners

The wine list in extensive, with several lables available by the glass, and the bar personnel are always close at hand to provide the drink of choice for any guest.

A la carte prices are reasonable, given the quality of food and the setting of the venue. For those on a budget however, Le Bordeaux is pleased to offer an excellent value lunchtime set menu of three courses, or indulge yourselves in the Menu Degustation - a veritable feast for the senses and very reasonably priced for the sheer quantity and quality of food. Both options include one glass of wine per diner.

Finally, while not pretending to be the cheapest restaurant in town, we at Le Bordeaux believe that the combination of great food, excellent service, superb setting and above all, attention to detail, will ensure that any meal at Le Bordeaux will become a treasured moment for any diner.
