Inle Lake - Paradise on the Water |
|
The huge - and hugely beautiful - Inle Lake is located in the heart of Shan State which borders Thailand and Laos. The region climbs up to over 900 metres above sea level. Major attractions of Inle include more than 30 ethnic minority hill tribes, and the lake itself - a vast body of water that is home the very photogenic leg-rowing fishermen (and women).
Loctaed in the mountains, high above sea level, Inle Lake and its environs offer a coool respite to the heat of the plains, especially during the dry season. Inle Lake is developing a reputation as a relaxing destination among many travellers and tourists, with good value accommodation and food, and a relaxing, laid back ambiance that's sure to soothe the senses. The stilted fishing villages are another attraction here, as are the various pagodas, monasteries and shrines dotted around the lake. The local markets are a hive of activity and local crafts and textiles are just a couple of the bargains to had when visiting.
