Laos - Vietnam rail link mooted |
Vietnam is planning to invest US$527.5 million (US$1=RM3.45) in
building two railways that will link the country with Cambodia and
Laos, its news agency VNA reported Wednesday.
The projects are part of a scheme to construct trans-Asia railway
networks and railway routes connecting member countries of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), reported the Viet
Nam Railway Department.
The 130 km Sai Gon-Loc Ninh route to Cambodia, with a total
investment of more than 3.91 trillion VND (RM1= 4,620 VND), will be
built by the Vietnam Railway Department, the China Mechanical
Equipment Import Export Corporation and the China Railway
Construction Corporation.
The other railway, which will link Vung Ang with Mu Gia in central
Ha Tinh province to Laos, has a total length of 120 km and requires
investment of over 4.52 trillion VND.
The future railways are expected to further promote trade and
transport cooperation among Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos as well as
between the three countries and other Asean members and China.
