New Laos and Bangkok flights launched |

Shanghai Airlines has announced a new route linking Shanghai with
Chongqing and Bangkok. Three weekly flights (departing Tues, Thurs
and Fri) between the three cities will launch on 22 January.
Meanwhile, Lao airlines will open a new route between Luang Prabang
and Kunming, Yunnan province. |

Chinese firm to build five-star hotel in Laos |

Yunnan Copper Mining, a Chinese state-owned company, is scheduled
to start construction of a five-star hotel with investment of 5
million U.S. dollars in Laos' Luang Prabang province, one of the
country's hottest destinations for foreign tourists, in August,
according to Lao newspaper Vientiane Times on Thursday. |

Laos sees tourism as top earner |

Laos expects tourism to be the top contributor to its economic
growth and is focusing on promoting ecotourism to international
markets. Laos recorded 1.2 million tourist arrivals that generated
US$173 million for the country last year. Tourism was the second
largest contributor, after mining, to the country's GDP, said
Ambassador Vang Rattanavong, vice-chairman of the Lao National
Tourism Administration, according to a report in the Bangkok Post. |
