The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the easternmost country of the Mekong region, bordering China to the north, Laos along its western border, and Cambodia in the southwest. Its eastern border is coastal, where the countries rivers empty into the South China Sea and, ultimately, the Pacific Ocean.
