Phnom Penh is perhaps not the shoppers' paradise that, say, Saigon or Bangkok might be, but the capital nevertheless offers some great opportunities for the dedicated bargain hunter.
The city is home to plenty of excellent galleries, many carrying works at very reasonable prices, while the tourist areas are thick with shops and stalls offering all kinds of souvenirs and handicrafts.
Cambodian silk is enjoying something of a renaissance, partly due to the dedicated efforts of several NGOs and charitable operations training disadvantaged people the ancient weaving skills and modern marketing techniques.
Home decor and furniture are also well represented here, again at bargain prices, while pirated CDs and DVDs are readily available at several stores in the city. Finally, Phnom Penh also boasts some decent bookshops offering a fair selection of both new and used books and a range of international magazines.
