Thailand sees 18% increase in business travellers |
Thailand’s meetings, incentives, conventions and events
(MICE) market continues to grow in 2007, as business arrivals
jumped in 2007 some 18% compared to the previous year.
As business travel numbers continue to grow by phenomenal figures,
the meetings market now grows at levels between 20%-30%, outpacing
the leisure market and overall tourism growth by leaps and bounds.
By the end of 2007, Thailand is expecting to record over 797,000
travellers who state ‘business’ as intent of trip. 2006
recorded 677,500 business travellers. Business and corporate
travellers also tend to spend more into the local economies, with
2006 bringing in revenues of over THB46.7 billion, and 2007 looks
to receive more than THB55 billion. “Over the past eight
years, MICE industry in Thailand has been a significantly
fast-moving sector,” TCEB President Natwut Amornvivat has
said previously. “Our strength of business is shown in the
readiness of meeting venues and facilities for consumer products
shows, infrastructure, uniqueness of Thai culture, hospitality,
famous national cuisine, and a large number of premium tourist
attractions.”
