Myths and Mountains takes to the road in Vietnam on two wheels to explore the best of the country’s colorful culture and landscapes. This distinctive adventure begins and ends in Hanoi.
Travelers will ride brand new Honda motorcycles along Vietnam’s western border with Laos, and then head north along the Chinese border and down the eastern side to Halong Bay. Much of the route is rarely traveled by tourists, making this a truly unique Vietnam adventure. Beginning in Hanoi, the journey features a host of historic sights: old French prisons, the famed battleground at Dien Bien Phu, and the hill station at Sapa. These places are seldom seen by tourists. Adventurers will discover Vietnam’s highest mountain, 10,000-foot Fansipan, and wend their way through rarely visited northeast Vietnam. Meet the H’mong, Dzao, Dzi, Thai, Nung, and many other hill tribe people. Wander their markets, experience their culture, visit their homes, and sip tea with the locals. The journey ends with a sea canoe trip on Halong Bay, or “Bay of the Landing Dragon,” one of UNESCO”s World Heritage Sites. There is ample time to explore the caves and tidal lagoons. The boats will dock and travelers will come full circle, returning to Hanoi and the Majestic Salute for the last day of this truly unique motorcycle adventure. Myths and Mountains’ 19-day “Vietnam: Motorcycling the Northern Border with Laos and China” tour is scheduled for October 5-23, 2007. Per person land cost is from $3,995. A cultural travel company based at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Myths and Mountains offers more than 100 itineraries, many featuring both scheduled departure dates and the availability of custom dates. The company also designs personal journeys to suit the tastes of individual, group and family travelers year-round to Asia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Rim and South America.
