Vietnam targets 5 million visitors in 2008 |
A conference on Vietnam’s tourism sector’s 2008 tasks
was held in Ha Noi on December 27, where it was revealed that the
country has targeted to welcome 5 million foreign visitors in 2008.
The increase represents a year-on-year increase of 19 per cent,
with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh
stating that 2008, and following years, will see a focus on
advertisement and market expansion. According to the Vietnam
Economic Times, the minister has also suggested that the sector
should pay attention to developing tourist products as well as
personnel training to meet the customers’ requirements. It
should also mobilise all resources to develop entertainment
facilities, particularly for community-based tourism, with an aim
to reduce poverty. Vietnam’s tourism administration announced
a total of 4.2 million foreign visitors in 2007, breaking records
and increasing visitor numbers by 17.2 per cent over 2006 figures
